Petition started to allow El Paso to secede from Texas

(Nov. 2012 story)

A petition has been started on the White House’s website to allow the city of El Paso to secede from the state of Texas.

“El Paso is tired of being a second class city within Texas,” the petition states. “El Paso has little in common with the rest of Texas. Its demographics are more similar to New Mexico. El Paso is also proud to be part of the United States and wants no part of a state whom publicly contemplates secession from our great nation.”

The petition was started on Tuesday and has just over 50 signatures. It needs 25,000 comments before President Obama would possibly comment on it.

A petition was started recently to allow Texas to secede from the United States and has soared way past the 25,000 needed for an Obama comment.
