Gov. Martinez to sign “no texting while driving” bill

Governor Susana Martinez is expected to sign a bill that would prohibit texting while driving in the state of New Mexico.

Senate Bill 19 is sponsored by Santa Fe Democratic Senator, Peter Wirth, and Republican Representative James Smith from Sandia Park.

The bill will ban texting while operating a motor vehicle, except when summoning medical or other emergency help.

Martinez is expected to sign the bill into law at two o’clock on Sunday afternoon.
