Parents allege 9-year-old son raped at school
A Lower Valley mother and father came to ABC-7 with shocking allegations. They say their special needs 9-year-old son was raped at school.
We’d like to warn our audience some of the details in this story are sensitive. A man we’re only referring to as Javier says his son was raped at H.D. Hilley Elementary in the Socorro Independent School District. Now his family is searching for answers.
“I think he was raped right here at the school,” Javier said. He didn’t want his face shown on camera. Javier believes his 9-year-old son with Autism was sexually assaulted at a place he’s supposed to be safe, school.
“He said a man in the restroom on the wall and was touching his behind,” Javier described about what his son said to him.
After school on Feb. 5 the boys’ mother noticed her son acting strangely and complaining of pain in his rectum. ABC-7 was told the suspect’s description is vague because the fourth grader has limited communication skills.
“You make an outcry for him and they don’t listen to you, they wouldn’t do anything for you, that’s what makes this case worse,” Javier, who sounds like he is hurting as he talks, said.
The incident was reported to administrators at H.D. Hilley, SISD and law enforcement.
Javier gave ABC-7 documents from an El Paso Childrens’ hospital examination, which conclude the boy was sexually assaulted.
SISD Assistant Superintendent Pat O’Neill says everything’s being done to complete an investigation.
“There has not been any employee identified. That’s what we’re trying to determine. Was it an SISD employee involved, who was involved and what actually happened? That’s what the investigation’s going on right now,” O’Neill said.
All the boys’ parents can do is wait. Javier thinks some people don’t believe his son due to the boy’s limited verbal capabilities.
“I don’t want anything. All I want is for them to do justice for my son,” the father said. He and his wife ask if any other child has had a similar experience, to please come forward.
SISD couldn’t provide many details since the investigation is ongoing. O’Neill says if it’s determined a staff member harmed a child in any way, that employee will be terminated and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
The boy has already started at a different elementary school. Stay with ABC-7 on air and online for any developments on this story.
