Woman accused of killing boyfriend found guilty of lesser charge

The verdict is in for the trial of a woman accused of killing her boyfriend in Las Cruces.

38-year-old Annette Larson Fuschini was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter. Fuschini killed her boyfriend, Carlos Nevarez III, last summer by running over him with a truck.

Third Judicial District Attorney Mark D’Antonio had hoped for a tougher punishment.

“Anybody who sat through trial earnestly is shocked by the outcome,” he said, “However, I am a great fan and appreciate the jury system and so I accept the verdict….reluctantly.”

Witnesses said the couple was fighting over another woman when leaving a friend’s house. They say the couple got into their truck and started to drive off. But Fuschini later slammed on the brakes and Nevarez got out of the truck. Witnesses say she ran him over as he walked away.

Fuschini told jurors she had no memory of the incident.

Fuschini now faces up to 18 months in prison.

Carlos Nevarez Jr., the victim’s father, said Fuschini got away with murder.

“She was charged with a certain crime which she got away with. The reason she got away with it is because of the evidence that was presented to the jury and how it was presented…that’s what they had to go with.”
