Environmental Services Dept. warns of scam

El Paso, Texas – The City of El Paso Environmental Services Department is warning residents of a scam related to code enforcement and animal services.

An unknown number of El Paso County residents have been sent letters through the U.S. Postal Service indicating that their properties will be inspected by “City and County of El Paso Environmental Services” code compliance inspectors. The notices state that if violations related to code compliance or animal services are found and not corrected “a fine will be issued.”

The letters were not sent or authorized by the city’s Environmental Service Department. The department became aware of the letters when some of them intended for residents in San Elizario were returned by the postal service because they had an “insufficient address.”

Any resident who has received such a notice is asked to report it to Environmental Services at (915) 621-6702.

Environmental Services does on occasion mail out notices to residents but the notices are not sent on behalf of the “City and County of El Paso.”

Residents may contact Environmental Services at (915) 621-6702 or through e-mail at ESDCodeManagement@elpasotexas.gov to confirm if a notice they received through the mail was distributed on behalf of the department.
