LIMBS International kicks off “Week of Giving”

LIMBS International kicks off their first ever “Week of Giving” Friday.

LIMBS is a non-profit organization that was developed out of the Borderland.

The group partners with UTEP and works to create low-cost prosthetics for those in need.

The “Week of Giving” actually lasts 10 days, continuing on until Christmas Eve.

The executive director of the organization said the campaign gives the public a chance to partner with them in helping make a better tomorrow.

A goal of the event is to gather as much donations as possible, via text message.

That’s right, a text!

By texting “LIMBS” to 80888, and then replying “yes,” a five dollar donation is made to the organization.

As an added bonus, different restaurants and coffee shops like Starbucks, Peter Piper Pizza, and the Bagel Shop are participating in the event. They are offering discounts and free items to people who donate. The entire list of participating restaurants is found at www.elpasogives.com.

All donations go to LIMBS.

Specifically, the funds will help the non-profit with continued research, and provide those in need this holiday season with a prosthetic.

Because the company is Borderland based, the first priority is assisting the military community and Juarez amputees.

However, the organization also provides for people around the globe.

Their journey began with a prosthetic knee that was developed for only a few hundred dollars. In the United States, comparableprostheticsgo for over $1,000.

As research continues, LIMBS hopes to continue assisting anyone around the region with prosthetic needs.
