Chihuahuas win second straight, 8-5
The El Paso Chihuahuas hit three home runs in their 8-5 win over the Sacramento River Cats Saturday night at Southwest University Park. It was El Paso’s second straight victory, giving the Chihuahuas consecutive wins for the first time since April 10 th -11 th .
After Sacramento scored a first inning run, Cody Decker put the Chihuahuas ahead with a two-run homer over the left field wall. Jeff Francoeur’s three-run home run to right-center one inning later gave El Paso a four-run lead. Sacramento inched within one run after tallies in the fourth and fifth innings, but Adam Moore’s two-run homer in the sixth kept El Paso ahead to stay.
El Paso’s Jason Lane allowed three earned runs in 5.2 innings, earning his third win of the season. Hector Ambriz and Bobby LaFromboise held the lead before Kevin Quackenbush pitched a 1-2-3 top of the ninth to seal his fourth save. Quackenbush struck out the final two batters of the night.
El Paso native Fernando Rodriguez pitched a scoreless eighth inning for Sacramento (Athletics affiliate). Saturday’s crowd was the fifth sellout in six home games at Southwest University Park.
