Stout, Diaz win close Democratic runoffs for County Commissioner seats

Two County Commissioner Democratic runoff races were decided by a handful of votes.

David Stout defeated incumbent Sergio Lewis by 48 votes in the Democratic runoff for County Commissioner precinct 2. Stout had 2,571 votes and Lewis had 2,523.

“I think there are a lot of structural reforms that need to be looked at,” Stout told ABC-7. “One of the biggest is the budget office. It’s under the authority of the county auditor at this point. I think it should be under the authority of Commissioners Court.”

In the precinct 4 runoff, Julio Diaz defeated Melodya Salaices by 65 votes. Diaz had 2,267 votes and Salaices had 2,202 votes.

Diaz will face Republican Andrew Haggerty in the general election in November.
