Chihuahuas Get Blanked at Home

The El Paso Chihuahuas were held to three hits Tuesday night in their 10-0 loss to the New Orleans Zephyrs at Southwest University Park. New Orleans starter Anthony DeSclafani pitched seven shutout innings for his first Triple-A win. New Orleans has won the first two games of the four-game series.

The Zephyrs scored three times in the top of the fourth inning on a two-run home run by Kyle Jensen and an RBI single by Rob Brantly. One inning later, Derek Dietrich hit a fly ball off the right field foul pole, a two-run shot to give New Orleans a 5-0 lead. The Zephyrs blew the game open in the top of the eighth, scoring five runs in a nine-batter inning.

Jake Goebbert had two of El Paso’s hits, with Travis Buck’s ninth inning double being the other. Jeff Francoeur pitched a scoreless top of the ninth. Francoeur has been scored upon only one time in his seven relief outings this season.
