Bohannon named C-USA Player of the Week for 2nd time in 3 weeks
UTEP senior center John Bohannon was appointed the Conference USA Player of the Week for the second time in three weeks on Monday.
Bohannon averaged a double-double (20.5 ppg/11.0 rpg), as well as 6.5 assists and 2.0 blocks, as UTEP completed a 1-1 week with a 73-68 loss to Charlotte and a 66-56 win over Marshall. He also became the 32nd member of UTEP’s 1,000-point club.
On Jan. 9, he collected 23 points, eight rebounds, six assists, two blocks and a steal versus Charlotte, making 7-of-9 field goal attempts and 9-of-12 free throw attempts. He established season-bests for field goals made (seven), free throws made (nine), points (23) and minutes (38) against the 49ers. On Jan. 11, he recorded his 16th career double-double (tied for the 10th-most in school history) with 18 points and 14 rebounds versus Marshall. He also tied his career-best with seven assists in the game.
With two blocks against the Herd, Bohannon tied Dave Feitl for second place in school history with 137 rejections. He now has 1,004 points and has tied Feitl as the tallest members of UTEP’s 1,000-point club at 6-11. He was also honored on Dec. 30.
The Miners (11-6, 1-1 C-USA) will play at Middle Tennessee on Thursday and UAB on Saturday.
