El Paso County Commissioners vote to have 3rd party finish Sportspark with completion deadline missed

The deadline has been missed.

Now the County has decided to get a third party involved in order to finish work on the Sportspark.

“The season is gone and lost,” El Paso County Judge Veronica Escobar said.”We had families who had been waiting and waiting for the completion of the Sportspark.”

County commissioners on Monday voted to “pull the bond” on the County Sportspark project.

This means the bonding company will now get involved to make sure the project is finished.

Daniel Gonzalez, the project manager hired by the County to oversee the Sportspark’s remodeling says he welcomes the decision.aniel gonzalez says this will expose the design flaws that have plagued the project from the start.

“We’re finished,” Gonzalez said. “We have everything done and all of the items that are still pending to be completed are design flaws. Every single one of them is a design flaw.”

Gonzalez says he couldn’t work around those design flaws which he claims will keep the Sportpark from meeting requirements set by the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Gonzalez says he is now trying to make up for the time his company lost on the project.
