Las Cruces Public Schools bond election is Tuesday; where to vote

Polls will be open 7:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 4, 2014 at 27 consolidated voting precincts for the $65 million LCPS School Bond and Three-Mill Levy election.

There are no voting convenience centers for this election – all voters must vote at their assigned precinct locations.

If you are not sure where to vote, call the Doa Ana County Bureau of Elections at 575.647.7428.

If passed by voters who live in the Las Cruces school district, the bond would provide $65 million for school construction, renovation, repairs and upgrades that would impact almost every school in the district. About $4.6 million of that total would go directly for new school safety measures and upgrades.

The mill levy would generate approximately $9.2 million per year for the school district to make major repairs and purchase school furniture, playground equipment and technology, among other items. The mill levy would also bring revenue to three local charter schools: Las Montaas Charter High School, New America School, and La Academic Dolores Huerta.

Passage of both the bond issue and the mill levy would maintain the current school tax rate, which is $9.81 per $1,000 of taxable property value. Taxable value is one-third of the assessed value for property owners in the Las Cruces school district.
