Aggies Release Turf Design
The NM State athletic department today released the final design of the synthetic turf that is currently being installed at Aggie Memorial Stadium. The field will debut on Thursday, August 28 at 6PM for the home opener against Cal Poly as part of Ag Day.
The field design will use a liberal amount of crimson, with the Pistol Pete logo emblazoned across the center of the field. The bright and vibrant colors will make Aggie Memorial Stadium a place of pride for the entire community.
A $1 million donation from businessman Stan Fulton, owner of Sunland Park Racetrack and Casino, and a $300,000 contribution from ASNMSU, allowed New Mexico State University to fund installation of the synthetic turf at Aggie Memorial Stadium. The new turf is expected to improve player development, enhance player recruitment and increase campus and community access to the stadium.
Events at Aggie Memorial stadium have been severely restricted to prevent damage to the natural grass, but this will not be a concern with synthetic turf. Additional high school and other football games can be played at Aggie Memorial Stadium without damage and the stadium can also host band and cheerleading competitions, outdoor concerts, and other NM State student organization activities.
Construction is scheduled to be complete on August 25 th and includes a new drainage system able to handle a 300-year flood, as well as back-to-back 100-year floods. In other words, the field will be able to handle inclement weather without impacting play. Fans can keep track of the progress of the project by accessing the free streaming at http://www.nmsu.edu/memorialstadium/.
The 2014 season will be an exciting one for Aggie fans. In addition to the new synthetic turf, the Aggies will also place a special emphasis on family entertainment, feature post-game fireworks shows and concerts, and keep popular traditions Striking the Wonder Dog, Keystone, the Pride Band, Aggie Walk, and of course, cowbells.
Season tickets are available now and start at only $50.
