El Paso County Sheriff’s deputy resigns, later arrested for soliciting sex act from detainee

A former El Paso County Sheriff’s deputy has been arrested May 6 on a charge of improper sexual activity with person in custody and tampering with physical evidence.

According to the sheriff’s office, a female who had been arrested by Deputy Reuben Rodriguez said that Rodriguez had solicited a sex act from her when she was being transported to the County Jail the morning of May 3.

Rodriguez, 27, resigned from the sheriff’s office the morning of May 6. He was a five-year veteran of the sheriff’s office.

“Not only are the actions of this individual criminal, but they are outrageous and will not be tolerated by the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office,” Sheriff Richard Wiles said in a statement.

Wiles is asking anyone else who may have a similar complaint against Rodriguez to contact the sheriff’s office at 915-538-2276.
