El Paso Police arrest man in shooting death of friend

A 24-year-old man has been charged in the shooting death of a friend.

El Paso Police have arrested Enrique Torres, of the 1100 block of Night Hawk, with criminally negligent homicide after his friend is shot while handling a loaded pistol.

Police say that on April 11, 2014, 29-year-old Gerardo Sanchez, along with Torres, were handling a firearm after they had been drinking alcohol for several hours.

At one point, Sanchez asked to hold the pistol owned by Torres.

Police say that as they were exchanging the pistol it fired one round that struck Sanchez in the head and killed him.

The gun allegedly fired because Torres had his finger on the trigger during the exchange, according to police.

Torres has been booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility on one count of Criminally Negligent Homicide. His bond was set at $2,500.
