Las Cruces mom charged with child abuse after allegedly fracturing her 6-month-old’s skull
Leslee Ann Soliz, 24, of the 9800 block of Shining Star Court, is charged with one count of child abuse, a third-degree felony.
Las Cruces Police say that Soliz took her daughter Iris to MountainView Regional Medical Center on May 2 for what was first described as an adverse reaction to new medications.Hospital personnel conducted a computerized tomography scan on the infant but those results came back negative.
On May 3, Iris was taken by ambulance to MountainView because she was exhibiting symptoms of head trauma, according to police.
Iris was then transported to University Medical Center of El Paso where an MRI revealed she was suffering from a parietal skull fracture.
Police officials say detectives received conflicting statements from Soliz but subsequently learned that she was frustrated with Iris’ crying and at some point on or before May 2 Soliz is believed to have swung Iris, striking the girl’s head on a wall.
Soliz was arrested Wednesday, May 7, and booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center with bond set at $50,000. Iris is still being treated at University Medical Center.
