Two dead in rollover on I-10 near Van Horn

Two people are dead after a rollover accident on I-10 Saturday afternoon.

Department of Public Safety spokesperson Sgt Elizabeth Barney tells ABC-7 the accident occurred at 12:07pm 27 miles east of Van Horn.

A vehicle was travelling west when drifted south into the center median, the driver then over corrected in an attempt to get vehicle back on the road and then over corrected again going into counter clockwise skid. The vehicle then entered the center median, struck the elevated embankment and rolled.

The driver, Guillermo Jurado, from Amarillo was pinned underneath the door frame. The vehicle was pushed back onto its wheels
by passersby who then helped get the passenger from San Elizario, Maria Pena, 73, of out of car. Rear passenger, Leopoldo Pen,a not wearing seatbelt and was ejected. She was wearing her seat belt.

Driver fatigue or falling asleep at the wheel were contributing factors.
