Bees hold off Chihuahuas in extras, 6-5

The El Paso Chihuahuas scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth to tie the game but lost 6-5 in extra innings to the Salt Lake Bees Saturday night at Southwest University Park. Grant Green’s pinch-hit RBI double, which landed inches from the right field line, scored the go-ahead run for Salt Lake in the tenth inning.

Trailing 5-3 in the bottom of the ninth, the Chihuahuas scored two runs on an RBI double by Reymond Fuentes and a sacrifice fly by Chris Nelson. El Paso started an extra-inning comeback attempt as well when Jonathan Galvez led off the bottom of the tenth with a single. Salt Lake reliever Michael Kohn then got a double play and a strikeout to end the threat.

The Chihuahuas are now 2-6 in extra-inning games this season. Saturday was the eighth consecutive Chihuahuas game that was decided by two runs or less. Saturday’s crowd was the 31 st sellout in 41 home openings at Southwest University Park.
