Hobbs man pleads not guilty in hammer attack
A Hobbs man has pleaded not guilty to charges of attacking an elderly couple in Las Cruces during a robbery.
The Las Cruces Sun-News (http://bit.ly/1pGQUb8) reports that 42-year-old Guy Jaime Young entered the plea to nine felony counts Monday in state District Court.
Police have said Young on June 11 approached an 82-year-old man and hit him over the head with the hammer before entering the home and striking the man’s 79-year-old wife on the head.
The suspect then fled in the couple’s pickup but was located by police at a truck stop 90 minutes later.
Charges against Young include two counts each of attempted first-degree murder and armed robbery, three counts of evidence tampering and one count each of aggravated burglary and unlawfully taking a motor vehicle.
