Providence still out of compliance with medicare standards

Providence hospital remains out of compliance with the federal government’s medicare participation standards.

The hospital is currently under state jurisdiction following its initial inspection failures in September. A re-inspection this week found that the immediate jeopardy to patient safety has been removed, but there are still three different areas, including infection control, where the hospital is not meeting the required standards.

A letter from the Texas Department of Health Services said “Consequently, we plan to continue the termination action against Providence Memorial Hospital.”

The hospital has been given an extension until December. When it’s reinspected, it must pass in all areas or lose its medicare eligibility, with no further extensions possible.

The three areas still out of compliance are governing body, patient’s rights and infection control.
