Canutillo ISD teacher accused of inappropriate contact with student resigns

Not long before the Canutillo Independent School District board was to discuss the possible termination of an Davenport Elementary School teacher at tonight’s board meeting, the teacher resigned.

A spokesman with the district told ABC-7 the teacher in question is accused of making inappropriate contact with a third grade student.

ABC-7 was told that the third grader told a parent about the contact and the parent filed a complaint over the summer.

The district launched an internal investigation and Child Protective Services and the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office launched an external investigation.

The teacher was told as soon as his contract started this school year that he would be put on paid leave until the board makes a decision on his case.

The meeting is at 6 p.m.
