LCPS board extends superintendent’s contract

The Las Cruces Public School Board of Education voted unanimously to extend the contract of Superintendent Stan Rounds, through the summer of 2016.

The decision happened at the board’s February 18, 2014 regular meeting.

Rounds was hired by the board in 2007. He’ll begin his eighth year as LCPS superintendent on February 28, 2014.

Board of Education President Dr. Connie Phillips said, “Stan Rounds has brought a much needed period of stability to our district as our superintendent.” She added, “Additionally, his knowledge of the budgetary process at the state level has served our district well in these times of diminishing resources. Working together with the Superintendent and his staff, we continue to explore creative solutions that are focused on improving the education we provide our students.”

Rounds has been a New Mexico school superintendent for 31 years – in Des Moines (Union County in northeast New Mexico), Hobbs, Alamogordo and now Las Cruces. He also served as Associate State Superintendent for Finance with the State Department of Education for four years and was the financial analyst for the New Mexico Legislative Education Study Committee. He is a native of Albuquerque, where he began his teaching and coaching career.
