Man charged in fatal collision

37-year old Jaime Lopez is charged with Intoxicated Manslaughter in the crash involving an El Paso police car that caused a chain reaction of multiple collisions early Saturday morning.

That’s when police say Lopez ran over a man, killing him.

This happened on I-10 west between Raynolds street and Paisano.

The first crash happened when a police squad car was hit from behind. The police officer is OK.

While police were trying to clear the scene, another police car was hit by a motorcycle driven by 50-year old Oscar Ceballos.

Ceballos was thrown off his motorcycle. According to police, that’s when Lopez, who was driving an Impala, struck the back of the police car and swerved into the right lane, striking Ceballos. Ceballos died on scene.

The investigation revealed that speed and alcohol were factors. Lopez was arrested and booked on Intoxicated Manslaughter. He is being held on a $100,000 bond.

This the 35th traffic fatality of 2014 compared to 29 at this same time in 2013.
