UTEP takes on Tulsa at Don Haskins Center tonight

UTEP will host Tulsa at 7:05 p.m. today at the Don Haskins Center.

Tulsa is one of the hottest teams in C-USA, winning its last five games by 10 or more points.

“Our memories of Tulsa aren’t good. We were 0-2 against those guys last year,” UTEP coach Tim Floyd said. “I think they’re the fastest team in the league. Their guards are jets and they utilize their quickness. They play through their bigs like [coach] Danny Manning’s background at Kansas and with Bill Self. Their guards play great man-to-man pressure. They score in transition. They are a very difficult matchup for us, and they’re playing as well as anybody in the league.”

The Miners will wear Texas Western jerseys on “Throwback Thursday.” The cheerleaders will also wear throwback uniforms. Seniors John Bohannon and Tyler Tafoya will be honored prior to the game.

The first 5,000 fans will receive Texas Western rally towels, courtesy of GECU. Neon orange Miner Throwback hats will be given to the first 500 students who are currently enrolled at UTEP.

Fans are encouraged to wear throwback attire for the game and can tag their throwback photos on Instagram now with #utepthrowback. Photos will be posted at texaswesternthrowback.com.

Former UTEP football standout and current Philadelphia Eagles long snapper Jon Dorenbos will perform a magic show at the Miner Athletic Club pre-game dinner on Thursday at 5 p.m. in the Larry K. Durham Sports Center. D’Lox will cater Thursday’s meal, and UTEP assistant coach Ken DeWeese will provide an in-depth look at the Tulsa Hurricane. Tickets are $15 each and are available by calling 747-8759.

Dorenbos will also be signing autographs from 6:15-6:45 p.m. in the Haskins Center concourse and will speak at halftime of Thursday’s game. The halftime festivities also include an appearance from Miner Legend Marlon Maxey, one of the stars of the 1992 NCAA Sweet 16 team.

Tickets are $8, $12 and $15 and are available now by calling 747-5234.
