UTEP’s Vince Hunter named C-USA Freshman of the Week for 3rd time in 4 weeks
UTEP’s Vince Hunter on Monday was named the Conference USA Freshman of the Week for the second straight time, and the third time in four weeks.
It is the fifth time he has received the honor this season.Hunter is the third player to earn C-USA Freshman of the Week honors five or more times since the award’s inception in 2011.
Hunter tied his career-high with 26 points at Southern Miss and averaged 19 points per game and 6.5 rebounds per game for the week as UTEP split two games.
Hunter tallied 12 points and seven rebounds versus Tulane. He shot 5-for-7 from the field in 26 minutes. He was 8-for-11 from the floor and 10-for-15 from the line at Southern Miss while tying his career high with five assists. In the two games Hunter shot 72.2 percent (13-for-18) from the field and 63.2 percent (12-for-19) from the line.
The Miners (20-8, 10-3 C-USA) will host Tulsa (15-12, 10-3 C-USA) in a crucial C-USA game on Thursday at 7:05 p.m.
They will wear Texas Western jerseys on “Throwback Night,” and seniors John Bohannon and Tyler Tafoya will be honored.
Thursday’s halftime show features appearances by Miner legend Marlon Maxey and Philadelphia Eagles long snapper and former UTEP player Jon Dorenbos.
