Records held in MMA fighter home invasion case in Las Cruces

A state district judge has ruled the Dona Ana County Sheriff’s Office does not have to release more details in connection with a professional mixed martial artist who deputies say killed a man suspected of breaking into his home.

The Las Cruces Sun-News reports (http://bit.ly/1ltI2ky) that Third Judicial District Judge Douglas Driggers decided last week the sheriff’s office doesn’t have to make public more documents related to the investigation.

The ruling came after an attorney for MMA fighter Joseph Torrez requested reports about the investigation through open records laws.

Deputies say Torrez fatally stabbed an alleged intruder, 25-year-old Sal Garces, during a Jan. 1 suspected home invasion.

Torrez has not been charged.
