Pursued vehicle stopped by police in Las Cruces

Las Cruces police say law enforcement officers are in a standoff with a man who is believed to be armed and who had been the subject of a pursuit on Interstate 10.

Police spokesman Dan Trujillo says New Mexico State Police chased the vehicle on eastbound I-10 Friday morning. He says police then stopped it in a mostly residential area when the vehicle got off the freeway.

Police are asking pedestrians and motorists to stay away from the vicinity of Avenida de Mesilla and south Main Street, which is about a mile southwest of downtown.

According to Trujillo, two other people got out of the vehicle when it was stopped but the man believed to be armed remains inside.

Further details aren’t immediately available.
