Basketball coach Tony Harper to leave Montwood for Cathedral High School

An official at Cathedral High School said Wednesday that Montwood boy’s varsity basketball coach Tony Harper will be introduced as the new basketball coach at Cathedral High School on Friday.

Harper has won more than 900 games, making him the only active coach in Texas to do so. He is only the fourth high school coach in the country to win 900 games.

He was named the 2011 State Coach of the Year for boys’ basketball by both the University Interscholastic League and the National Federation of State High School
Associations.

The gym at Montwood has been renamed in recent years to Tony Harper Gymnasium.
