Previous Story June 12, 2013: El Paso Police have released the name of the woman killed in a motorcycle crash on Tuesday night.

She has been identified as 26-year-old Diane Valdez Bernal of the 4700 block of Pistolero

Police say that Bernal was the passenger on a 2011 Kawasaki motorcycle being driven by 32-year-old Daniel Miller traveling north on Mesa.

At the same time a 1993 Jeep Cherokee was traveling west bound from Paragon crossing Mesa in the 5300 block. Police said Miller was alleging traveling at a high rate of speed, used faulty evasive actions, and lost control of the motorcycle.

The motorcycle then slid on its side causing Miller and Bernal to become separated from the motorcycle. Bernal collided with the Jeep and died at the scene.

Miller was transported to Las Palmas for treatment of serious injuries.

The driver of the Jeep and two teen aged passengers were uninjured and remained at the scene.

Police Special Traffic Investigators said speed on the part of the motorcycle was a factor in the fatal collision and they also suspect alcohol on the part of the driver of the motorcycle.

This the 16th traffic fatality of 2013 compared to 23 at this same time in 2012.
