El Paso Police arrest 43-year-old on criminal attempted murder charge

El Paso Police have arrested a 43-year-old man on a charge of criminal attempted murder.

According to police, Jerry Newport, of the 300 block of Milton, on Saturday afternoon became involved in an argument with a 29-year-old male at Newport’s home.

Police say the argument escalated and that Newport displayed a handgun and allegedly fired several rounds at the man. The man, whose name was not released, was struck in the chest, stomach, left arm and right torso.

Newport allegedly fled the scene and was located by officers a short distance away, according to police.

The man was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Crime Against Persons (CAP) investigators were called to the scene and NEWPORT was charged with Criminal Attempted Murder and booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility on bonds totaling $101,500.00.
