Socorro ISD board reviews preliminary results of external review

The Socorro Independent School District’s Board of Trustees reviewed the preliminary results of an external review Tuesday evening.

The review, conducted by Dr. Pam Padilla, was initiated by the board in March after three area school districts were found cheating on federal accountability tests, the El Paso, San Elizario and Canutillo independent school districts.

Some of the individuals who were connected to the EPISD worked at SISD in the past.

Padilla, a former superindentendent of Canutillo ISD, charges $100 per hour. At this time there is no final cost, according to SISD Spokesman Daniel Escobar.

Escobar said Padilla is combing through the school records starting from 2007 up to now, looking for any potential wrongdoing and to ensure effective procedures and policies are in place. Escobar said there are no allegations of any wrongdoing, the district is working to get ahead of the problem.

The board will release the findings of the external review early next week.
