ABC-7 UPDATE: Work to replenish Ascarate water levels to begin soon

Work to replenish water levels at Ascarate Lake is expected to begin soon.

Monday, county commissioners approved to award the contract to Acosta Drilling from La Mesa, Texas.

Interim County Engineer, Fernando Hernandez told ABC-7 only two of five wells are working and a third one will be capped off in order to build a brand new one.

The price tag to build a new well is $197,000.

Ascarate Lake usually covers about 48 surface acres, Hernandez said the lake is about two-thirds full right now.

The new well is expected to take three to four months to build and become fully operational for the entire park.

“We’ll run it 24 hours a day and will be filling the water levels. We utilize the lake water to feed the turf and sod out there,” said Hernandez.
