Airbag recall affecting millions of cars

El Paso,Tx- The list of cars with explosive airbags is getting longer. Federal officials have increased the number of recalled cars.

Earlier this week N-H-T-S-A called on more than 4.7 million owners of vehicles with Takata airbags to get the airbags replaced. That number has now gone up to nearly 8 million.

ABC-7’s Promotions Director Mark Niethamer owns a 2005 Honda Civic.
his car is also on the list of affected vehicles. Niethamer says once he learned of the recall he jumped on the N-H-T-S-A website, but was unable to log on. He says he feels a little uneasy “I sit fairly close to the steering wheel because of my body size it’s a little unnerving to think that this thing could just blow up in my face and I could get hurt”.

Carlyle Meeks is the Service Manager at Rudolf Honda he says “In areas where you have high heat and high humidity over time the humidity can cause the inflator to over pressurize” He explains “we are not subject to high humidity, sure we have high heat the chances of the incident happening is pretty thin”.

Meeks says if your car is on the list of recalled vehicles wait until you get a notice in the mail, once you receive a letter contact the dealer’s service department and make arrangements for the repair.
