Bracket and schedule for C-USA Tournament released
The schedule and brackets for the Conference USA tournament have now been released. The action will be coming to El Paso next week, as the University of Texas El Paso hosts the tournament.
In Thursday night’s regular season finale, the Miners won in San Antonio, beating the UTSA Roadrunners 61-51.
With the University of Alabama Birmingham’s loss to Middle Tennesse, UTEP is set up as fifth seed, but won’t get a double-bye round in the tournament. That coveted spot will go to Louisiana Tech. The resulting schedule means UTEP may have to face the Roadrunners again.
UTEP’S first tournament game will be Wednesday, with the Miners playing the winner of the UTSA and East Carolina matchup. If UTEP wins that game, they’ll have to play against Southern Miss on Thursday.
Only 15 of the conference’s 16 schools will be playing in the tournament. That’s because Florida International is ineligible to play in the postseason.
The first games of the tournament will be held on Tuesday.
When the tournament was last held in El Paso in 2011, ticket sales and sponsorships brought in a total of $1.4 million. Officials with the city say El Paso as a whole got a $3.5 million economic boost from the event in 2011.
