Groundbreaking ceremony for Border West Expressway

A groundbreaking ceremony was held Wednesday morning to mark the beginning of construction that will complete Loop 375.

Bob Bilelek, district engineer for the Texas Department of Transportation in El Paso announced the project’s official name, the Border West Expressway.

It will connect the highway from Park Street near Bowie High School to Sunland Park Drive.

“You’re talking about a half a billion dollar project to close this loop,” said Ted Houghton, Chair of the Texas Transportation Commission.

The Border West Expressway is expected to be complete in 2018 and it will be a tolled highway.

It will cost ten cents per mile for the nearly eight-mile stretch of highway.
