Hundreds flock to Plaza Classic Film Festival

The Plaza Classic Film Festival kicked off its second day Saturday.

A steady stream of film fans stood in line at the box office to buy tickets to watch their favorite films.

“I love it. Me and my family come here every year,” said Ashley Wagner.

“I don’t know how you get any better than 100-year film,” said Toey Loya.

“We have really worked hard over the last six years to make it happen and this year people know what to expect,” said event organizer Eric Pearson.

Pearson told ABC-7 after six years the the film festival has developed a following.

People even come from around the world.

“We’ve gotten a notice from people in Germany,” said Pearson.

The Plaza Classic Film Festival will showcase around 90 movies including “Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom” and classics like “The Wizard of Oz.”

For many film junkies, classic films on the big screen bring out the nostalgia.

“It’s like a time capsule,” said Loya.

The festival also allows fans to chose Saturday night’s movie and has outdoor stage with bands as well.

“It’s a great experience because sometimes downtown is a little dead and this brings some life,” said one unnamed fan enjoying the band.

Inside there were little girls captivated by Dorothy and the Scare Crow from “The Wizard of Oz.

“Good stories really hold. It doesn’t matter if it’s black or white or no words– if it’s a good story, it’s a good story,” said Loya.

Film festival organizers are working to make the festival to be sustainable, “We want to carry on this tradition of providing first-class entertainment to people in the region and all over the country,” said Pearson.

The festival will continue in through the week and KVIA will have a schedule of all the movie showtimes on KVIA.com
