Update: 78 cats removed from Central El Paso home

Update: El Paso’s Animal Services says that 78 cats were removed from a Central El Paso home on Thursday and that more are expected to be removed.

Animals Services went on Wednesay and issued 18 citations for 6 cats. Then came back Thursday and seized the 78 cats. More citations are expected.

Previous story: More than 50 cats were removed from a home in Central El Paso Thursday, the second case of animal hoarding in the city in just two weeks.

Animal Services Department spokeswoman Tammy Fonce-Olivas told ABC-7 officers checked on the property on the 3800 block of Bliss avenue after they received complaints about its smell.

After officers removed dozens of cats, an ABC-7 photographer saw several more cats outside the house and city officials confirmed they’d be heading back again.

It is unknown if the cats are stray, feral or have been domesticated.

On July 23, Animal Services employees removed 54 dogs and a cat from a home in east El Paso. All the dogs were picked up by non-profit organizations, Fonce-Olivas said. The Humane Society of El Paso took in more than 40 of those animals.

Thursday afternoon, it was unknown who lived at the home on Bliss avenue, or the condition of the animals.

Fonce-Olivas was not able to provide more details, as the investigation continues.
