Additional supplies needed for flood victims

Flood victims in Dona Ana County need additional donations of food, bottled water and services to help recover from the floods in La Union and Berino. Residents also need cleaning supplies – disinfectant wipes, mops, detergent, shovels, squeegees and electric fans to dry soaked carpets. In addition, there is need for plywood,lumber and supplies for people who need wheelchair access to their homes. The Doa Ana County officials are warning the public of potential scam attempts already surfacing related to the flooding. Deputies have been unable to determine who is collecting the donations or whether funds are being used to assist flood victims. People wishing to donate are encouraged to do so through the American Red Cross and the Doa Ana County Health and Human Services Department.The Doa Ana County Health and Human Services Department is accepting all other donations at the main reception desk of the Doa Ana County Government Center at 845 N. Motel Blvd., in Las Cruces. Residents who wish to volunteer are asked to call Ralph Lopez at (915) 727-1251.
