El Paso City Council looks to lower gas rates

Now that Texas Gas Service has split into two companies, the El Paso City Council wants to see if there’s an opportunity to lower gas rates.

Texas Gas is divided into One Gas Inc.One gas will focus on the retail side of the business.Council members said at Tuesday’s meeting, they want to analyze how the split could affect gas rates and if those rates could be cut.

“Given the fact that there is a new company, there is a new cost of debt, there’s new policies and procedures,” said Rep. Cortney Niland, “we just want to make sure that the rates that are set are the appropriate rates.”

Council members will continue their discussion on rates in three weeks.
