Montana Vista neighborhood to get sewage system
It is hard to believe, but some El Paso County residents do not have basic sewage systems or natural gas service.
That is the case for dozens of families who live in the Square Dance neighborhood in Montana Vista, but some good news is headed their way.
El Paso County Commissioner Carlos Leon told ABC-7 the United States Department of Agriculture awarded the county a $7.4 million grant to install a sewage system in the neighborhood.
Commissioner Leon said an estimated 200 families will soon be able to get rid of their septic tanks. Residents’ waste will now be going into the city’s sewage system.
He said the county’s portion would be less than $100,000 for the project.
“This is a big boost for that area,” said Leon.
“I think that would be wonderful,” said Dianne Valdez, who owns a shelter near the neighborhood.
An engineering firm has been awarded the project, but a date to break ground has not been set.
Yolanda Gonzalez welcomed the idea, especially after living without a sewage system for 22 years.
She said all that is needed now is natural gas service and it would become a perfect place to live for all the residents.
Commissioner Leon said the county is also in talks with residents about getting paved roads and lighting.
