Fight Night Vs. Football?
We know there are some die-hard Aggie and Miner fans in the borderland but the fight between Floyd Mayweather and Saul Canelo has been in the making for months now.
Sports lovers had a tough desicion to make, a battle to see who wins the bragging rights between the Miners and Aggies or who wins the world championship fight between Mayweather and Canelo.
“Oh no I’d rather be here watching my Aggies play win or lose, bad weather, good weather, hell were here to watch them play,” said a Aggie fans taking his seat in the stands.
But even die hard Aggie fans couldn’t help themselves.
“I’m going to leave at half-time to watch the Mayweather Canelo fight.” said another fan painted in Aggie crimson.
Even though they live nearby, some Las Cruces neighbors chose not to make the walk to the game and watch the fight at a bar.
“I love football and everything butI want to see this fight, it’s somethingI want to see,I want to see history,” said Michael Esparza.
Others chose to criticize.
“I chose to watch the Mayweather Canelo fight over the rivalry because face it both teams are not known for their winning,” said Gabriel Holguin.
Bars and restraunts nearUTEP were were getting ready but were they afraid they’d be losing some of their crowds to the game? Not so says Cabo Joes Manager Juan Carrillo.
“It’s crazy man people are everywhere having a good time,” said Carrillo.
Carrillo said he’s been getting calls about the game for days now.
“Earlier in the week we had to stop taking reservations,” said Carrillo.
Sports fanssaid the rivaly between the Miners and the Aggies will go on forever but the fight…it’s once in a lifetime.
“I want to see some action not football, footballs tomorrow,” said Susette Barcenas.
The last time Las Cruces hosted the battle of I-10 was in 2011 with an attendance of around 19,700 people. This year the unofficial attendace we were told was 18,366.
