Stormwater project to close part of Wedgewood Drive starting Oct. 27

An upcoming stormwater project will close part of a busy street for weeks starting Oct. 27 in East El Paso

Crews will install underground utility and stormwater infrastructure on Wedgewood Drive in the area just north of Montwood Drive, and will need to close that area approximately eight weeks.

The reconstruction of Montwood Drive is not only designed to improve street and drainage infrastructure, but will include new landscaping, irrigation, new sidewalks, and ADA-compliant ramps.

Motorist will see marked detours along Montwood Drive, McRae Boulevard, and Album Avenue. However, eastbound and westbound traffic on Montwood, which is already reduced to one lane in each direction, will not be impacted.

The project will also force Sun Metro to detour Route 52. Buses heading north on Wedgewood, will turn left onto Montwood, right onto Camwood, left onto Wedgewood. Buses heading south on Wedgewood, will turn right onto Honolulu, right onto Ceylon, left onto Bermuda, right onto McRae, left onto Glengarry, left onto Berwick, right onto McRae, left onto Montwood, right onto Wedgewood returning to the regular route.

Bus drivers will make courtesy stops along the detoured route, which is subject to change depending on traffic.

The detours will remain in place through December. The 24-month project is expected to be completed in February 2015.
