Plane crashes near Las Crcues airport; 2 onboard suffer minor injuries

A single-engine plane crashed near the Las Cruces International Airport on Labor Day morning.

New Mexico State Police told ABC-7 the crash happened at about 7:30 a.m. about 1/8 of a mile west of the airport runway.

The two people onboard suffered minor injuries.

The plane, piloted by 31-year-old student pilot Kathlyn Drexler, was found upright and there was no fire, but there was damage to wings, propeller, undercarriage and nose of the plane.

Owner of the plane, 42-year-old Beth Baker, also was on the plane.

Drexler complained of injuries but refused treatment and Baker suffered arm lacerations but refused to fly to University Medical Center, so she was driven there.

The FAA is expected to be there later today or Tuesday.
