Water flows through Rio Bosque Wetlands Park again

As hot as it is outside, water is flowing through the Rio Bosque Wetlands Park again. The park is outside of the county, just north of the Rio Grande on 10716 Socorro Rd.

Park Manager John Sproul said the park is usually dry and brown, but now it’s green and water is flowing. He says even thousands of ducks and water birds have returned.

This is because now the park is getting about 405 million gallons of water a day from the Bustamonte Wastewater Treatment Plant, or about 15 percent of the plant’s output. This is important for the growing vegetation nearby.

“Very quickly we’ll get to see changes in terms of vegetation, wildlife use and its really going to be fascinating to watch the park as it changes,” Sproul said.

Sproul said the park is open seven days a week. If you want to see water and wildlife, he invites you to check it out.
