El Paso Police warn public to not leave money in vehicles after visiting banks, ATMs

Police are warning the public about burglaries where the alleged criminals stake out victims before they rob them.

Four Houston men were arrested Friday for allegedly burglarizing vehicles in the area as part of the trend.

Investigators say the suspects would watch people who enter banks or use ATMs and the patrons who would have money envelopes or bank bags would be targeted.

Police say the suspects would wait until the money was left unattended in the patrons’ cars and burglarize the vehicles.

This type of burglary is known as “jugging,” which stems from gold currency that was carried in a jug in stagecoaches more than a century ago.

The four Houston men arrested for allegedly jugging are:

Willie Curry, 29, of the 6300 block of Woodbean in Houston. Charged with Burglary of Vehicle (BOV) and Evading Arrest or Detention (Bond $28,000)
Jemarcus Hurst, 28, of the 900 block of Cypress Station in Houston. Charged with BOV and Evading Arrest (Bond $28,000)
Donald Edmond, 27, of the 8400 block of Elfringe Dr. in Houston. Charged with BOV and Theft O/$1500-U/$20,000 (Bond $13,000)
Tyrone Haynes, 23, of the 7800 block of Crestview in Houston. Charged with BOV and Theft O/$1,500-U/$20,000
