Assistant principal in Austin quits amid bus driver child abuse case

An assistant principal in a Central Texas school district has resigned after seeing a bus driver allegedly touch a 6-year-old girl but not reporting it for months.

The Austin Independent School District has not released the administrator’s name in the case that led to molestation charges against the driver.

District officials and police Friday night met with parents following the arrest of 61-year-old Leon Ralph Young. He’s charged with aggravated sexual assault of a child.

Investigators believe the girl was inappropriately touched several times since August.

Officials say the assistant principal in January saw Young touching the girl on the shoulders and back and told him to stop.

The investigation started last month when some students reported seeing more incidents. The assistant principal then spoke with police.

Young was fired.
