El Paso County Commissioners announce 2 nominees for UMC board of managers

Two El Paso County Commissioners announced their respective choices to the University Medical Center Board of Managers.

The nominees will be voted on by the full Commissioners Court on Monday, April 6.

Commissioner Vince Perez’s choice is Miguel Fernandez.

Fernandez is the CEO of Transtelco, a bi-national telecommunications carrier, and a current board member for the Medical Center of the Americas.

“Mr. Fernandez’s experience in business, finance and project development will be a tremendous asset to the University Medical Center Board of Managers,” Perez said in a statement. “He is a successful and innovative entrepreneur, who is passionate about our region’s future and understands the vital role of public health care in our community. He has invested his time, energy, and resources to make El Paso a better place. I appreciate his willingness to serve the community in this capacity.”

Commissioner Carlos Leon’s nominee is Joy Martinez.

Martinez works at Nazareth Living Care Center.

If appointed, Fernandez and Martinez will each serve a two-year term and could be reappointed. The board is made up of seven members.
