Users Report Problems With $3.6 Million Digital Wall
Users are reporting problems with the city’s new $3.6 million Digital Wall Downtown. The wall’s curator responded by saying it is all about the “perfect touch.”
Monday, ABC-7 caught with students experiencing “Digie” for the very first time and many were impressed. “It’s very nice and I love it,” said one student.
What isn’t so nice is all the dirty fingerprints left behind.
Everett Thomas, wall’s curator, told ABC-7 it is important for users to wash their hands before touching the screen. Food and grease on a person’s fingers will stick to the wall’s screen and affect its functionality.
Thomas said the city cleans the wall every day with glass cleaner and a fiber cloth. Users have to do their part to keep it that way.
One of the wall’s features is its guest book, where users can record a “video selfie” and upload it into the wall’s program.
According to Thomas, security reported more than 600 people Saturday and the guest book feature experienced problems. Thomas said he was going to report the problem this week.
“The wall is meant to be manipulated with the tip of your finger, not a whole hand,” said Thomas. “(Users) take all their fingers and touch the screen. That’s multiple touches. Then, everyone’s touching the screen at once and the system is going crazy.”
