Chihuahuas’ home game to be shown on national television

The El Paso Chihuahuas will have a chance to show off their skills –and their award-winning ballpark– during a game that will be televised nationally on May 31st.

The Minor League Baseball Sunday Showcase will pit the El Paso Chihuahuas against the Iowa Cubs. First pitch has been moved to 5:05 p.m. to accommodate the broadcast.

Chihuahuas General Manager Brad Taylor said in a statement the team is honored. “We encourage all of El Paso to pack the house and show the United States what kind of a fan base we have,” he said.

The game will be carried on the American Sports Network (ASN), and will be broadcast locally most likely on Retro TV, channel 14.2.

Dave Armstrong (play-by-play), Keith Moreland (analyst), and Brian McRae (analyst) will call the game.

Tickets are on sale at EPChihuahuas.com or by calling (915) 533-BASE. It will be Zumba Night, too.

This is the only time that fans will be able to cheer on their local team before a national audience, but not the only time the Chihuahuas –or the ballpark– will have the national spotlight this year.

The Chihuahuas are scheduled to play another nationally-televised game when they visit Round Rock on May 28. That game will be broadcast at 6 p.m. On the CBS Sports Network.

Southwest University Park will host this year’s Triple-A National Championship, set for Tuesday, September 22nd and broadcast on the NBC Sports Network.
