Judge Mott to preside over El Paso Children’s Hospital bankruptcy filing
U.S. Bankruptcy Judge H. Christopher Mott will preside over the Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection filed by El Paso Children’s Hospital.
Although Mott’s office and home are in Austin, he presides over cases in the Austin and El Paso Divisions.
“I sit and live in Austin, and travel to El Paso once a month for about a week to hold live court,” he told the Sidebar, a newsletter from the Texas Tech University School of Law. “My chambers and myself probably spend about 50 percent of our resources on El Paso cases and about 50 percent on Austin cases.”
Mott has roots in El Paso. He had a 27-year career as founding partner of the El Paso firm now known as Gordon, David, Johnson & Shane.
Mott graduated from the Texas Tech University School of Law in 1983. In 2003, he was president of the Sun Bowl Association Board of Directors.
He was appointed to the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Western District of Texas in 2010 and replaced Judge Frank Monroe. The U.S. Court of Appeals appoints bankruptcy judges to 14-year terms.
